Qualifying to be a Medical Marijuana Patient

Do you suffer from arthritis, glaucoma, or fibromyalgia? Is conventional medicine not exactly doing you much good? Perhaps you might want to seek medical marijuana dispensaries to receive an alternative form of treatment. That said, only those who are qualified to be medical marijuana patients can have access to the drug. You may or may not meet the requirements, depending on where you live.

For example, California doesn’t encourage state-licensed health professionals to prescribe medical marijuana to their patients; they can only “recommend” it. This recommendation letter should contain important information such as the reasons for recommending the drug and the specific type/brand of marijuana to be used. If you live in this state, you must be at least 18 years old and have proof of residency. If you don’t yet meet the age requirement, then a guardian or parent must accompany you.

Thanks to a state law passed in 2003, so-called medical marijuana “club cards” can be used in place of a recommendation letter. These documents, however, still need to be verified by a reputable health provider either by phone or online. However, a card is more useful since it can give you access to any legal marijuana dispensary in the state.
