Legal Marijuana in Focus: Nevada

Just because pot is legal in your state doesn't mean you should start stocking up. The federal government promised not to criminalize pot possession and use as long as state law permits it, but pot still remains an illicit substance. Dispensaries are frequently faced with the task of controlling the distribution of pot and pot-infused consumables.

To put it briefly: Keep your sins in check in Sin City…and the rest of Nevada.

States that have decriminalized pot possession usually impose a limit on how much usable pot you can own. Section 453.336 of the Nevada Code places the maximum limit at one ounce. In addition, the marijuana must be obtained from legitimate sources like dispensaries as per the doctor's prescription. Without a prescription from a licensed physician, even possession of less than one ounce can get you jailed.

If not for the medicinal properties of marijuana, pot legalization would be unheard of today. Any user wishing to benefit from consuming the plant is expected to be responsible enough to handle its effects on the body. Not everyone in the country is convinced that marijuana is a good drug, and if something bad arises out of the decriminalization effort, it can serve as grounds to criminalize it once more.
