In
the US, a total of 20 states now permit the use
of medical marijuana for certain conditions. Regulations on
medical marijuana use vary from state to state. In Arizona, for
example, patients with qualifying conditions are allowed to possess
no more than 2.5 ounces of medical cannabis within a 14-day period.
Meanwhile,
employees who test positive for cannabis during mandatory or
voluntary drug testing can't be subjected to penalties provided they
can produce a doctor's prescription authorizing them to take medical
marijuana. However, employers can impose penalties on any employee
whose work performance is impaired due the use of this regulated
substance and for ingesting the said substance while at work. Such
penalties typically remain within the bounds of every company's rules
and regulations.
Back
when medical marijuana legalization laws first took effect in Arizona
between late 2010 and early 2011, medical cannabis was strictly
prohibited within the colleges and universities. However, in 2013,
the legislature allowed medical cannabis within school grounds,
albeit strictly for federally approved research purposes. In
addition, patients who live more than 25 miles from a medical
marijuana dispensary are allowed to grow their own cannabis plants
provided they do so in highly secure locations.
