California
has no state regulation or set standard when it comes to the
cultivation and/or distribution of medical marijuana. Rules,
regulations, and guidelines are the responsibility of each county in
The Golden State. As of May 2013, only three counties do not
implement their own medical marijuana programs, namely Mariposa,
Sutter, and Colusa. In Colusa, medical marijuana dispensaries are
completely banned.
In
any case, here are the steps on how to register for a medical
marijuana card elsewhere in California:
Consult with a physician
to confirm that you qualify for a medical marijuana card
Furnish a copy of your
doctor’s recommendation
Obtain proof of identity
(a valid ID or driver’s license will do)
Obtain proof of residency
(e.g. rent or mortgage receipt)
Contact your county about
its existing medical marijuana program
Fill out the Medical
Marijuana Program Application/Renewal Form
Ask your physician to
complete the Written Documentation of Patient’s Medical Records
Apply in person at the
California Department of Public Health
As
for medical marijuana card application fees, take note that standard
administration fees amount to $66.00 for patients/caregivers and
$33.00 for Medi-Cal patients. Likewise, keep in mind that these are
State administration fees and do not reflect the actual fees charged
by your county, as counties generally add on their own administration
fees. You can contact your local county for the actual costs.
